Evidence tracing
Every finding, traced to the page that proves it and the rule that caught it.
An exception you can’t show is an argument you’ll lose — and a rule you can’t evaluate is a rule you can’t improve. Each Overtrace finding carries its evidence chain, with the deciding number boxed on the page, and names the rule that flagged it. Your disputes hold up, and every review tells you which rules to trust, tune or automate.
The problem
Most audit findings are a number and a sentence. Then the questions start.
“Which page?”
The trade wants to see it. The client wants to see it. Finding the page again takes longer than finding the error did.
“Why was this flagged?”
When a finding doesn’t say what raised it, nobody can tell which checks are worth keeping — so the audit never gets better.
Black boxes don’t get paid.
A finding nobody can trace to its source is a finding the other side will simply reject.
The solution
The page, the line, the number — and the rule behind it.
Proof, side by side
The exact line the contractor billed next to the signed field paperwork, with the number that matters boxed.
An evidence chain on every item
“Billing detail p.144, checked against p.51 and p.77.” Every page cited is one click away.
The rule that flagged it
Every finding names the rule that raised it, with a one-line why in plain words — so the trade sees the basis and you see which rule did the work.
Rules you can evaluate
Your decisions roll up by rule: how often you agree, how many dollars it finds. Keep what works, tune what doesn’t, and automate what you always accept.
The transcription underneath
See what the AI read from each page. Double-click a cell to correct it — the audit re-runs and remembers the fix.
Confidence you can see
Findings that depend on handwriting are marked medium confidence, and hard-to-read pages are listed for a person to check.
Questions
Common questions.
What does “traced to its page” mean?
Every finding records the pages it came from — the billing page and each evidence page — and the review screen opens the page image with the relevant row highlighted. Exports carry the same page references.
Why does it matter which rule flagged a finding?
Because that’s how the audit gets better. Seeing the rule behind every finding lets you measure each rule against your own decisions, fix the ones that misfire, and let Overtrace automate the ones you always agree with — so each month needs fewer manual calls.
What if the AI misread a handwritten number?
You’ll see the transcription under the page image. Correct the cell and Overtrace re-runs the affected checks and remembers the correction.
