Overtrace vs. estimate review: audit the actuals, not just the estimate.

Estimating platforms like Xactimate — and rules engines for reviewing estimates — are how restoration scope gets priced. But large losses often start on time & materials, and then what matters is the actual billing: who was on site, which machines ran, what was bought. That’s what Overtrace audits.

Why teams choose Overtrace

Why restoration teams add Overtrace to their estimating stack.

  • Built for T&M actuals

Labor, equipment, per diem & materials reconciled to signed field records and receipts, day by day.

  • Every line, not a sample

Overtrace reconciles every employee-day, machine, receipt & total in the package — thousands of pages — instead of the slice a person has time for.

  • Every finding cited to its page

Billed line, supporting record and the deciding number boxed on the page image. The trade, the client and the auditor can all check it in seconds.

  • Minutes, not weeks

A month’s package is read in minutes. The review that follows is sorted by dollars, so the biggest problems are decided first.

Questions

Common questions.

Do I still need Xactimate?

Yes, for estimating. Overtrace doesn’t price scope — it audits what was actually billed on time & materials work, which estimating tools aren’t built to do.

Can Overtrace check equipment counts against the space being dried?

Overtrace checks equipment against the signed equipment list, crew presence, quantities and rates. Whether the equipment plan itself was right-sized is a judgement call — one you can encode as a rule if your project has a standard.
