Built for auditors & building consultants

Review every line of a large-loss package, not a sample of it.

Large-loss T&M packages arrive by the thousand pages, and the review is split across people who each catch different things. Overtrace reads the whole package, applies your firm’s conventions consistently, and gives every reviewer the same evidence for every adjustment.

The problem

The review takes a month, and depends on who did it.

  • Backlogs measured in weeks.

Invoices wait in the queue while the next month’s arrive. Every week of delay is a week of friction with the contractor and the insured.

  • Different reviewers, different results.

When a package is split up, each person catches different things — and the contractor notices.

  • Adjustments that have to be re-explained.

Every reduction needs the line, the amount, the reason and the support. Writing that up takes as long as finding it.

The solution

Your conventions, applied to every line, with the support written for you.

  • Learns from your past audits

Import prior audit workbooks and Overtrace turns your firm’s treatment into rules — then measures, rule by rule, how closely it reproduces them.

  • Consistent across reviewers

The same rules run on every package, so the result doesn’t depend on who picked it up.

  • Every adjustment documented

Each item carries the billed line, the supporting record, the amount and the basis — ready for the variance summary.

  • Categories you already report

Labor rate variance, labor quantity variance, per diem, equipment & hauling, materials, calculation discrepancies.

  • The AI shows its work

Ask why something was flagged and get an answer grounded in the pages — and any change it suggests waits for a person to apply it.

Questions

Common questions.

Is AI bill review defensible?

Overtrace is built so it is. The AI transcribes the pages; deterministic code does every comparison and calculation, so results are repeatable. Every finding cites its pages, handwriting-dependent findings are marked, and a person makes every decision.

Can it reproduce our firm’s audit format?

Findings roll up into the variance categories auditors already use, and the Excel export lists every item with its amount, basis and page references.

Can it read handwritten timesheets and scanned receipts?

Yes. Typed billing sheets are parsed directly; scanned pages, handwritten sign-in sheets and photographed receipts are read by AI vision. Names are matched even when they’re misspelled, reversed or abbreviated. Any finding that depends on handwriting is marked medium confidence, and hard-to-read pages are listed so a person can look.

How is Overtrace priced?

As a small percentage of the T&M value audited — well below what recovery-audit firms typically charge — billed monthly for active projects, with no annual commitment. Many teams carry it as a cost of the work. Every engagement starts with a pilot on real invoices.
